Welcome to my world!

Backyard Birding in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas:
Surrounded by great birding destinations, our favorite patch is still the backyard (or the front), where we've seen more than 270 species of birds. Sit awhile, and watch the river and yard with us!

Counting

Today is the beginning of one of my favorite weekends of the year--the Great Backyard Bird Count! Everyone can do it: Look up the how-to's here. Even if you can spare only 15 minutes  in the whole weekend to count birds, your count will contribute to science and can be great fun, especially if you have kids or grandkids to help.  (They will love the interactive maps on the website.)

Now, help me with my count:  How many Inca Doves are sitting in my live oak tree? (Look close!)

Yes, I'm doing the count. I love it too. Great shot of the Inca doves!

I count seven with a possible eighth dove in the far background behind vegetation. Love the photo.

They are just beautiful.

We do a similar garden birdwatch count over here too - but with very different birds - nothing half as exotic!
